Basco is the capital of the Province of Batanes. It is where you can find their airport and most commercial establishments and government offices.
Basco is a small town. You can walk around town if you want to see the church, provincial capitol, public market, restaurants, schools, banks and hotels. For those who doesn’t like to walk, your best option is to ride the tricycle.
In Basco and nearby towns like Ivana or Mahatao, the tricycle is the main mode of transportation. It is very rare that you can encounter jeepneys plying the roads and there are no taxi cabs here either.
Unlike most places, rates for tricycle in Basco are regulated. Fares and Tour rates are based on a Tariff or Fare Matrix approved by the BATODA or Basco Tricycle Owners and Drivers Association. You can ask the front desk of your Batanes hotel for a copy of this fare matrix so that you can see how drivers charge per destination.
Basco Batanes Tricycle Fares and Tour Rates
Tricycle drivers in Basco usually charge per way or per trip. You can call or text their TODA or terminal at 09297038404 to pick you up from the airport, from your hotel or from any destination in Batan Island like in Ivana Port, Basco Lighthouse, Fundacion Pacita among others.
You only need to pay per way or trip. For this example, you only need to pay 220 pesos for your trip back to Basco as per the fare matrix.
For most places in the town proper of Basco, tricycles only charge 30 pesos per trip. Most trips allow 3 passengers unless specified in the fare matrix.
Going to or from the Basco Lighthouse or Bunker Cafe can cost you 50 pesos while a ride from your hotel to Valugan Boulder Beach or back will only cost you 60 pesos.
One Way to Basco Lighthouse: 50 Pesos
If you want to see Fundacion Pacita, Basco’s most popular hotel, you can ask a tricycle to take you there for 120 pesos. The driver can only take 2 passengers for this trip due to some steep mountain roads.
