If you are living in Manila, chances are you’ll go to Divisoria, Baclaran, Sampaloc and other Christmas Bazaars and Tiangge to get your regular fix of affordable Christmas ornaments. What most of us don;t know is that a few hours away from the city, you can get these items for much much less. All you have to do is visit the town of Paete, Laguna.

Paete, Laguna is known as the “Wood Carving Capital of the Philippines”. They are known to produce some of the best wood carvings like various figures of saints used in various churches as well as other souvenir items.

Come “BER” months, the town offers various Christmas decors made wood, resin, paper mache and other medium. These are the same items that you see in most Christmas bazaars in the metro.

These decors come in different colors and sizes. All are priced at a more affordable price as compared to those you see in malls and eve in Divisoria or Baclaran.
How to go to Paete, Laguna?
From Cubao or Buendia/LRT, ride a bus bound for Sta Cruz, Laguna. Aircon bus fare is around 130 pesos and the ride will take you at least 2 to 3 hours.
Go down at the bus terminal in Sta. Cruz, cross the street and wait for jeepneys going to Paete, Laguna. The ride is around 30 minutes away and fare is at 30 pesos.

Go down at the town proper of Paete where you can see most of the shops and workshops that sells popular wood carvings, images of saints and religious artifacts, and affordable Christmas Decors.
