Walk in time at Colon Street in the heart of Cebu City. Colon Street is the Philippines’ Oldest Street. The street was named after the world famous navigator, Christopher Columbus (Cristobal Colon). Colon Street was also known as Parian in the old days.
Some of the first data about Colon Street dates back during the time of the Spanish Conquistador, Miguel Lopez de Legaspi in 1565. The street was part of the original town plan during those times. Aside for being the oldest street in the country, Colon Street in Cebu also has the distinction as the Shortest National Road in the Philippines.
Now,Colon is a major business and shopping district in Cebu. You can find lots of shops selling from brand new clothes, shoes, and appliances. There is also a lot of second hand store or “Ukay-Ukay” selling used clothes from other countries.

There are also a number of malls and shopping arcades in Colon. There are 3 Gaisano malls along the street, as well as countless arcades with shops owned by Chinese and Korean business men. Fast foods also line the street together with some local restaurants and side walk vendors selling local Cebu delicacies and street foods.Colon St is also near Carbon Market and some private schools and collages such as the University of San Jose Recoletos, University of the Visayas and University of San Carlos.
You can see the majesty of the street during its glory days as you pass along some of its old buildings and historical places. Many old buildings has its own Heritage Marker with details of its rich past and a small mural that pictures what it looks like during its prime.

At the end of the street, you’ll find the Colon Street Monument and marker. The marker is also a short distance from some of Cebu’s historical sites and tourist spots such as the Heritage Monument of Cebu and the Yap-San Diego Ancestral House.
The Cebu Cathedral is also not that far away, and so are Fort San Pedro and The Basilica del Minore del Sto Nino.
How to get to Colon Street?
Getting to Colonby jeep from the Mactan International Airport is easy. From the airport, hail the cab or the yellow multicab going to Marina Mall. From Marina Mall, ride the jeep either going to SM City Cebu or Park Mall Mandaue. From Parkmall or SM, look for jeepneys with jeepney code 01K. These Jeepneys will take you to Colon Street.
Another option if you’re already in SM Cebu is to take the jeep with route code 10H. This jeep will take you to Cebu Cathedral, just a few blocks away from the Colon Marker and the Cebu Heritage Monument, and the old Yap- Sandiego house.
Field Trip Boy Tip: Just like most crowded streets anywhere in the world, there are some bad elements prowling the streets ofColon. Just beware of pickpockets and street kids who will try to snatch your jewelry particularly your gold earrings. It is advisable not to wear jewelry while in Colon.
