If you’re in visiting Cebu, you must go to Taboan Market. Taboan is the premier source of the famous Cebu danggit and dried pusit or squid. I used to buy my dried fish in SM Cebu’s pasalubong corner, but after learning that I could get danggit for a much lower price, I opted to go to Taboan Market. It is easy to go to Taboan if your already in Sm Cebu, just take a jeepney with jeepney code 10H, tell the driver your going to Taboan and he will drop you a block away from the dried fish market.
Taboan Market’s Best Seller – Cebu Danggit
Danggit is a very popular breakfast item for Filipinos. With its crispy texture, it is good to be paired with fried garlic rice and egg cooked sunny side up. Danggit is also a favorite pasalubong item among local tourists and balikbayans. And the best danngit are those that came in Cebu and particularly sold in Taboan Market.
Cebu’s Taboan Market
You can see a wide variety of dried fish in Taboan Market. Another popular item here is dried pusit. My favorite is small dried pusit because it is crispy when cooked, and has a slight sweet taste. For those who are not allowed to eat pork due to health reasons, you should try some fish tocino and fish tapa. One of the most unique items sold in Taboan is fish bones. When cooked, these bones will give off a sweet caramel taste, just like fish tocino. For those who are brave and adventurous, try having some dried octopus instead.
For those who don’t want salty foods, try the unsalted version of danggit. I also recommend boneless dilis, palad flakes and espada. But for those hardcore buwad lovers, there are dried fishes that can satisfy your taste buds like tuyo, lapu-lapu, bisugo and labahita.
You could also buy other food products in Taboan other than dried fish. Here you could buy export quality dried mango strips and chips and mango puree. You could also buy otap and Cebu chorizo.

Just a reminder to first time field trippers, the smell of dried fish will stick to your clothes. So better bring extra shirts closely sealed in plastic bags, or go back to your hotel rooms and have a quick shower. Its is not all that bad, for smelling a bit fishy is part of the whole experience and is a proof that you truly came and bought your danggit in Taboan Market.
