It has been more than a decade when a friend of mine introduced me to Liemposilog.
Liemposilog is a variety of “silog” and is famous in San Pablo City, Laguna. Liemposilog consists of a cup of garlic fried rice, a sunny side egg and a serving of deep fried pork liempo.
I was still assigned in Pangasinan then and it was one of my rituals to go home to Laguna at least once a month. Luckily for me, Jason, a workmate and housemate happens to be a kababayan and was one of my travel mates every time I go home.
Our routine going back home usually starts at 11 PM in Dagupan, and we will arrive in Cubao at around 4 AM the following morning. We will then ride another bus bound for San Pablo City, and that trip will be around 1 and a half hours more.
The long trip will really make your head spin and your tummy hungry. And the best way to recharge is to get a great and filling breakfast. And one of the best breakfasts every Filipino should have is a hearthy silog breakfast, be it with tapa, tocino, bangus, fried chicken, longanisa or danggit.
Liemposilog: Great for Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner!!!
Since San Pablo is considered a school town, it is not unusual to see lots of tapsilog stores almost in every corner. Silog meals are considered budget food but very filling, thus very popular with students and the masses.
But if you want the best breakfast meals in town particularly that of Liemposilog, then better head out to Joel Town.
Joel Town: Home of the Original Liemposilog
We arrived at SPC at around 6 in the morning. Most of the stores are still closed but Jason insists that we head out to this “hole in the wall” eatery to get a hearty breakfast.
The place is located inside Joel Town subdivision, and looks like a house with a garage that has been arranged with seats and tables to accommodate customers.
Joel’s Town Liemposilog : a must try Hole in a Hole Restaurant in San Pablo City
The place became popular because of their original food concept, Liemposilog. Since they haven’t come up with a name for their restaurant back then, people just called them Joel Town, and the name struck ever since. It is one of the hidden secrets of the town then and a must try restaurants in San Pablo now.
I was impressed with this dish that I made it a point to eat regularly here almost every time I go to San Pablo City. I even introduced this place to some of my friends and this place became our meeting area on a regular basis especially on Thursdays.
Going back to Joel’s Town
Been craving for Liemposilog for the longest time now. Cebu is not known to be a tapsi place, thus it is a bit difficult to get tapsilog and other silog favorites everytime I have cravings like this. The closest thing you can get for an authentic Pinoy rice breakfast is to head out to Jollibee everymorning.
Last week was a welcome surprise, when Cecille and I, who are watching the game 2 of the NBA Finals in Liliw, took an emergency trip for Manila.
Liemposilog with Chopsuey: Perfect Combination
Since we were in a hurry, we didn’t got any breakfast. Good thing that Joel Town is just a few blocks away from the bus top in San Pablo.
The Original Liemposilog from San Pablo City
Joel Town restaurant is the first eatery I tried that serves this good tasting combo meal. The meal like I mentioned earlier consists of rice, egg and pork belly. Liemposilog also goes well with chopsuey.
The taste of their liemposilog hasn’t changed a bit. The only thing that changed about Joel Town’s liemposilog is its price. Now you can have Liemposolog at 65 pesos. Liemposilog with Chopsuey is at 90 pesos.
Liempo: Crispy Skin, Juicy Meat!!!
There are other varities of “Silog” served at this restaurant such as tapsilog, longsilog, tocinosilog, bangsilog, chixsilog, and adobosilog. They also serve other short order favorites such as pansit and lomi. Price range for silog meals is from 55 pesos to 65 pesos only, drinks still not included.
These breakfast meals are served the whole day.
How to go to Joel Town the original Liemposilog Restaurant
If your are from San Pablo, just ride a jeepney bound for San Pablo Medical Hospital, SM, Alaminos or Sto. Tomas.
If you are coming from Manila, ride a bus in Cubao or Buendia LRT bound for San Pablo or Lucena. Ask the conductor to drop you of at San Pablo Medical.
Joel Town Original Liemposilog Restaurant
After dropping off your vehicles, head out right ( if you are from San Pablo) or left ( if you are from Manila) to Joel Town subdivision. Upon entering the gate, walk straight for 2 blocks and turn left at the corner of the second street. The restaurant is just a few meters ahead.
