Planking is taking the photography world by storm. Now this weird pose is a staple for most photo shoots especially during your travels, and in areas in where you at least expect for someone to lie down face first and have his friends take his picture.
I’ve seen lots of travel blogs featuring some wacky poses planking, and I told myself to try it out just for fun. So when the right opportunity came, I told my ever present field trip buddy/ girlfriend, Cecille, to take a shot of me doing my first ever attempt at Planking.

What is Planking?
The history of planking dates back in the year 2000 when friends Gary Clarkson and Christian Langdon of North Eastern London invented the game called the Lying Down Game. They think this game is funny and something that resembles a practical joke especially when they did the stunts in crowded places such as school corridors and canteens.
Actor Tom Green said that he has been doing planking since 1994.
Planking or the Lying Down Game was exposed to the world when a leak from the internet in September 2009 showing medical practitioners in Great Western Hospital in England doing planking in some of the hospital’s facilities such as resuscitation trolleys, hospital beds and even on the helipad.
Last year, 2011, Planking became a hit globally. It even captured the curiosity of some famous celebrities and sports stars such as NBA player and Blogger Gilbert Arenas and his superstar team mate Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic.
Filipinos did not escape the Planking fever. Just browse your Facebook account and you’ll see lots of your friends doing planking and other weird and wacky poses.
Rules of Planking?
In Planking you must mimic a wooden plank, hence the term planking. You must lie face down on the ground or some other flat from such as benches, beds or tables. The more popular or the more crowded the place where you want your planking shoot to be taken , the better the more exciting it gets. And of course part of the rule of Planking is that you should share it in the internet for everyone to see such as in Facebook account or in my case my blog, FTB.

Please just be careful in selecting the places where in you want your planking sessions. I think it better for use to be aware of our surroundings first before doing planking and other wacky shots. As mush as possible, shy away from taking wacky shots inside temples, churches and other important places in where you might annoy or offend other people. Let’s be more responsible and more sensitive to others, especially if you’re traveling in a foreign land. (Just sharing, for I made the same mistake years ago).
It is also better to be safe. Do not do planking in dangerous places such as roof tops and in streets with lots of traffic.
If you’re done with your Planking shots, you can also do some of the more popular wacky poses around beside the popular jump shots and head stands. For starters you could try Owling, Tea Potting and Batmanning. There is even a new craze in the US called Tebowing, a pose dedicated to the new star of American football, Tim Tebow.
Noynoying is somewhat beginning to to catch steam.
You might even try to invent your own wacky pose. If you think you’ve invented an original wacky pose, just send me an email together with your pictures and I’ll be happy to share and feature them here in Field Trip Boy. Amazing Planking pictures and other wacky shots are also welcome.
