No Laguna field trip or vacation is complete without stopping over to the Jose Rizal Shrine in Calamba. The shrine is called Bahay ni Rizal and was the home of the nation’s National Hero.
The house is located just beside the parish church of Calamba. The Rizal shrine is a typical Bahay na Bato and has a large yard with lots of trees. This is one of the must see museums in the Philippines especially for kids and history fanatics. This is also one of the top tourist destinations in Laguna.
For those who loves Dr. Jose Rizal, you can also visit the Tallest Jose Rizal statue, one of the newest attractions in Laguna, located just in front of the city hall of Calamba.
Tallest Dr. Jose Rizal Statue in the World
Almost every town in the Philippines has their own version of a Jose Rizal statue. You can even find some statues and markers of our National heroes in different countries like Germany and Spain. As the home town of Dr. Jose Rizal and his family, it is only fitting for the City of Calamba in Laguna to host the tallest Dr. Jose Rizal statue in the world.

The statue was made by an artist named Jonas Roces. It stands at a height of 22 feet and was inaugurated during Rizal’s 150th birthday, June 19, 2011. President Noynoy Aquino was present during the ceremony.

The height of the statue, symbolizes the 22 languages and dialects that Dr. Jose Rizal can speak and understand. Some of the languages and dialects that our National Hero can speak are Filipino, Cebuano, English, Spanish, Arabic, Catalan, Chinese, Greek, Hebrew, Russian and others.

Before you can reach the base of the statue, you need to go up 15 steps. Each step represents a decade of Dr. Jose Rizal’s inspiration and legacy.
How to get to the tallest Dr. Jose Rizal Statue in Calamba Laguna?
From Manila, take a bus either from Cubao or Buendia LRT bound for Sta. Cruz, Laguna. Just ask your conductor to drop you to the Brgy. Halang. From there you just need to walk less than a kilometer to reach Calamba City Hall and the park where you can see the statue.

If you are not fond of walking, you can go down at SM City at Calamba Crossing and ride a tricycle.
The Jose Rizal Shrine is also just a tricycle ride away from the tallest Jose Rizal monument.
